Uniform Spotlight: Miami Hurricanes Debut Uniforms Made Out of Recycled Ocean Waste
The University of Miami Hurricanes have partnered with adidas and Parley For The Oceans to debut alternate uniforms made of repurposed, upcycled marine plastic waste. The collaboration with adidas and Parley For The Oceans honors Miami’s coastal roots by giving harmful marine plastic wastes new life, promoting sustainability, and embracing environmentally conscious production practices. The Hurricanes’ adidas x Parley A1 uniforms are the first of their kind and prove that high-performance, eco-friendly football uniforms can be functional, ethical, and stylish.
The Miami Hurricanes’ new threads are ocean-friendly from head to toe.
The thoughtfully designed uniforms are made with 70% recycled ECONYL(R) yarn, which is produced from fishing nets and nylon waste reclaimed from the ocean. The jerseys and pants are constructed with a variety of other marine plastic waste to design durable, comfortable technical fibers that ensure breathability and high-performance wear.

On top of sporting new jerseys and pants, the University of Miami’s new uniforms will feature ocean-friendly cleats and gloves made of recycled materials. In fact, the Miami Hurricanes will be the first NCAA team to hit the field in eco-friendly footwear.
Sustainable. Responsible. High-performance.
On top of being sustainable and eco-friendly, the Hurricanes’ new uniforms feature:
- Body-mapping design that allows full range of motion
- Ribbed knit and knit-engineered mesh allow for a stylish and comfortable fit
- Climacool technology that provide ultimate breathability and cooling zones
- Reinforced high-contact zones, like ribbed Primeknit on the knees, for enhanced durability
Catch their first game appearance during the Hurricanes’ season opener against Louisiana State University on September 2nd at the 2018 AdvoCare Classic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
